Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso is a Nigerian political leader and talented engineer. Kwankwaso is a serving Senator of Nigeria, representing Kano Central Senatorial district from Peoples Democratic Party.
Kwankwaso has been Kano State Governor for two times.
Now he is a representative of Kano Central Senatorial district from Peoples Democratic Party.
Birth | Early Life | Education
Mohammed Rabiu Kwankwaso was born on 21 October 1956, in Kwankwaso village, in Madobi Local Government Area of Kano State.
According to the popular tradition in Northern Nigeria, Rabiu Kwankwaso accepted the village’s name as the surname. However, some sources say that Rabiu Kwankwaso tribe is Igbo.
Mohammed Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso had his primary education at Kwankwaso Primary School and Gwarzo Boarding Senior Primary School.
Also attended Wudil School of Craft from 1970-1972 and Kano Technical College.
From there Mohammed Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso moved on to Kaduna Polytechnic where he obtained his National Diploma, and Higher National Diploma.
And then from 1982-1983, Mr. Kwankwaso proceeded to study at Middlesex Polytechnic. And Loughborough University of Technology from 1983 -1985 in the United Kingdom and obtained his Master’s Degree in Water Engineering.
Mr. Mohammed Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso got his job at the Kano State Water Resources and Engineering Construction Agency(WRECA) in 1975. He has been a civil servant for 17 years and rose to the postion of a Principal Engineer.
Mohammed Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso went into politics in the interrupted Third Republic. Elected as a member of the House of Representatives, representing Madobi Federal Constituency. Mr. Kwankwaso emerged as a Deputy Speaker.
He also was in the Peoples Front faction of the SDP ruled by General Shehu Yar’adua.
Then on the Constitutional Conference (1995,) Rabiu Kwankwaso was a representative of the Peoples Democratic Movement from Kano.
He moved to the PDP in 1998 with Peoples Democratic Movement in Kano.
Mr. Kwankwaso became the Executive Governor of Kano between 1999 – 2003, from the PDP. However, he contested for re-election and was beaten by Malam Ibrahim Shekarau.
President Olusegun Obasanjo appointed Rabiu Kwankwaso as Nigerian Minister of Defence.
On the 26th of April, 2011, Rabiu Kwankwaso then became the Executive Governor of Kano State for the second time. However, his political party got 30 seats from the total 40 in Kano.
Governor Kwankwaso then moved to newly created opposition party APC with other four governors and organized the G-7 group. He was defeated by Muhammadu Buhari at the APC Presidential primaries.
At the same time, Mr. Kwankwaso then contested and won the Kano State central senatorial seat in 2015 and becomes a senator of Federal Republic of Nigeria.
On July 24, 2018 Mohammed Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso defected to the People’s Democratic Party.
Then on August 29, 2018 Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso declared ambition for Presidential seat of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Mr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso got married to Hamisu Kano in the year 2000. However, they have 7 children Kasim, Yasir, Tasi’u, Yauta, Ashow, Ibrahim and Emir.
